After several years working in the field of evolutionary biology, I decided to change from this rather fundamental research discipline to a more applied scientific field. As a coordinator of a wildlife management project, I investigate the red deer population in the border area between Bavaria and the Czech Republic. With this joint project of the Bavarian State Institute of Forestry, the Bavarian Forest National Park and The Šumava National Park, we aim to describe the impact of climate change on size, structure and movement behavior of the red deer population in the Bohemian Forest eco system. Our results will enable us to predict the population status in ongoing climber change scenarios and thus will support the development of sustainable management strategies.
